Freedom in the 2000s

The Definition of the American Freedom

During the 2000s, the definition of the American Freedom was more geared towards freedom through immigration, gay rights, and lastly for freedom to choose peace over war. The 2000s were the time when we chose to fight the war on terror. People were protesting against starting merciless wars on small countries for only the purpose of terrorizing. We chose to fight for peace and for a fixing of the unjust way in which our country bullied others. This was a time for the definition of freedom to cover the freedom of individuality. The individuality in being able to speak against the act of terrorizing or wars around the world. The rest of the definition is the freedom to live and choose how we want to live our life, in a way that is not causing harm. Whether that means being patriotic about your immigrant status and home nation, or being able to marry the one you love without discrimination.

Amend Episode 6

For this episode I would say the people and the theme was immigrants and focusing on racism and prejudice towards immigrants. This was a big theme because throughout the entire episode, the speakers were speaking on what immigrants bring to America and on why immigrants-built America and then it goes straight into the audio and movie clips that are shown where immigrants are experiencing hate and discrimination. There are two sides to every of them that need to get balanced out and this episode brought it together.

My initial reactions to watching this show were that I was not surprised in the least bit. I have always known of this discrimination and hate against immigrants. It was always a known thing to me that there was a certain level of hatred towards immigrants in many small microaggressions during the day. Being an immigrant myself, I had seen a lot on the news about this type of racial targeting in their actions and the way it was almost unspoken of. There was always some underlying level of classmates that felt the need to use hateful false statements such as “Immigrant are taking out jobs”, “They don’t pay taxes”, and many other statements. They are statements that are false.

Amend Ep. 6

Chapter Question:

The war on terror affected the economy and American liberties in a great manner. This war was announced as a global war on terrorism after the 9/11 attacks. This war was global and led to the multiple wars that followed in the Middle East and conflicts that are still active to this day. This war led to our economy struggling and the market levels fell significantly after the attack. This led to American liberties being very low. We upped our TSA, which made it extremely harder to travel in the months following the attack, and many Middle Eastern Americans faced really brutal discrimination. This discrimination came from people using the attack as a scapegoat for their racism, xenophobia and hate.
